Perpetually torn between wild instincts (which would open the doors to savage interaction with other human animals) and contorting nature into some illusion of order, not sure who to obey/follow and when to lead.

Yeah, illusion of order is just so misleading.

But, so is no order at all, or chaos. If you had a choice between a well-marked road system and an M. C. Escher picture of intertwining pathways, which would you choose? To follow routes you trust will get you where you’re going or to wander eternally with no definite destination or any clue if you’re getting anywhere?
How do we reach a satisfactory happy medium?
