A promise stretched across distance

I have always loved bridges, the way they appear
More than steel and structure.. like a promise stretched across a distance.
They do not ask why there is a divide,
They simply become the answer.

There’s something deeply hopeful about bridges
People coming together to build something that brings others closer.
It is a path for the lost,
a gentle insistence to keep going
A reminder, there’s always a way forward.
To me, they’ve always felt like symbols of courage, resilience, and possibility.
A connection linking two unknowns, two stranger lands.

And then there’s the Golden Gate Bridge, a work of art!
The scarlet red, or should I say fiery orange-red or accidental “International Orange” colored bridge,
gracefully suspended in the air which looks simply striking
against the endless blue sky and blue bay on a bright sunny day.

India’s busiest and oldest Howrah Bridge which is officially known as Rabindra Setu is a steel cantilever bridge over the Hooghly river in West Bengal. This famous bridge is our enduring symbol of identity often called the Gateway to Kolkata. It is built without the use of any nuts, bolts or screws, the steel structure is held together by 2.5 million rivets. In the image below, the bridge is hidden in the morning fog but still looks magnificent.

Only humans can make mountains and gorges meet. I am still in awe of this bridge, it gave me the heebie-jeebies while crossing it. The wind was making it alive beneath my feet, I was praying for dear life, yet was unable to look away. Hiking the Caminito del Rey in Spain was terrifying and exhilarating in the most beautiful way.

The walk from Brooklyn to Manhattan across the Brooklyn Bridge is a memory for a lifetime. Manhattan in New York City sparkles like a million scattered diamonds at night. Each light from the skyline was trembling across the water on that freezing winter evening as the wind cut sharply through us, but every step was worth it. The image below does not do justice to reality.

There’s also the arched beauty of “The Coathanger”, our timeless Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Then there’s the most popular and wonderfully beautiful Tower Bridge in London. It looks almost picture-perfect, like something straight out of a postcard.

Sharing a last couple of images of bridges close to home. Sunset and moonrise always look amazing near a bridge, don’t they?

Somehow, this started as a poem and ended up as a blog of bridge memories and images.
