A Daydream

It’s so peaceful.
Another world,
Another universe.
The sound of waves gently lashing on the beach.
Each one with its own song to sing.
If only you could hear,
At a far distance – a bird
No, lots of birds – their sweet calls
Then someone calls me ..
Breaks my reverie,
And I’m back on this beach,
On earth.
I look around.
I can no longer hear the music of the waves,
Lost are the songs of the birds.
I am in this world
Trapped!
I want to be free …..

Spotlight is a new category on Into Words. Here, I will be posting poems from people who have shied away from sharing their work/don’t have a platform to publish their work/never considered putting their work on a public platform.

Sometimes we don’t realise how good our stories, poems, and thoughts can be and like the saying goes, “This world needs more art.” and art in any form is always appreciated. This section is all about sharing and appreciating ideas. It doesn’t have to follow any rules of perfection. If you feel you have a story/poem/idea to share, then please give me an opportunity to put you under the spotlight.

The Outsider

You think you belong to the land in which you were born,
Then, why have I felt so alone and wrong?
Like an outsider.
I’ve never felt at peace at home.
When I walked on the crowded streets,
I wished to go unnoticed.
Always hiding.
Always so angry with everything around me.
Always seeking a door,
To take me away from the miseries of this world.
Running, looking for an escape.
Running after change.

When I finally found it, I grabbed it with both my hands.
Leaving behind my home.
Unthinkingly in desperation.
I needed it so badly.

Of course, I was afraid!
Change is not easy.
But, my homeland has taught me to be brave.
All those years spent in fighting
Has given me strength to adapt to change.

When I opened my eyes to a new world,
I asked myself, “Is this paradise?”
Clear blue skies, lush green lands as far as the eye can see.
Filling me with a sense of serenity.

As time flies,
Slowly the feeling of awe subsides.
Overwhelming emotions started to consume me.
I looked around for familiar faces,
But, there was nowhere to hide.
I realised, I am the only outsider.
How do I begin again?

But, my homeland reminds me.
Never succumb to feelings of dread.
Overcome and be brave.
You have always been an outsider.
Running after change.

i

i lie here again waiting for the words to come flowing

to help me describe what’s been going

how do i begin my glorious story

a lost soul in a herd constantly seeking for glory

why do i feel i do not belong

thoughts, actions, and intentions

unwanted and sometimes so wrong

they judge and look at me with hateful eyes

i look down and walk ahead

sometimes with a smirk

sometimes with fear and anguish on my mind

why am i unlike the others

staying aloof,

hurting people whom i like,

it’s not that i like to always be alone,

it’s just my racing unsteady mind,

unsatisfied with what’s in hand.

Us

A walk towards you,

I close my eyes.

Let myself go,

Get lost in your world.

We belong with one another.

We fit just right.

I realize with a smile,

You light up my life.

You fill it with laughter and joy.

Childlike fantasy,

You and me, we are meant to be.

Her Wrath

A delicate soul.

Crush it not with the miseries of the world.

Give it warmth, love, and attention.

It silently demands for a lot more.

Withering in pain, burning brighter than the flames

It steers clear from emotions.

‘cos it knows it will be drowned in them.

Jealousy pierces like a thousand knives.

So, it decides to turn into a stone.

With tears of ice in its eyes.

Enlightened

They watch over you with their keen and judgy eyes

Surrounded by dark red clouds emitting an aura of jealousy and envy

They look down upon you to make you feel worthless

You take a step back –

Fear in your eyes

You try to hide your pain

The pressure is pulling you down

You feel weak in your knees

You’re afraid of being consumed by the darkness once you blink your eyes

So, you look straight ahead with passion in your eyes

The fear slowly seems to fade away

The redness of the clouds begins to turn into a pale white light

Suddenly, you are struck by the lightning of enlightenment

Now, you feel whole and satiated.
